Part 3 of 5 · You've Been Sold Half The Solution

Two Medications.
Almost 20 Years.
Still Losing.

Finasteride and topical Rogaine. Every single day. And I kept losing ground. Not because I wasn't trying. Because nobody told me there were two enzymes.

01 — My Timeline

The Problem Wasn't Me.
It Was The Medication.

Chris Kite
"Before my first hair transplant in 2019, I was on 1mg finasteride and topical Rogaine every single day. I also tried everything else — laser combs, dermarolling, supplements. All of it. I kept losing ground. After my first transplant, I switched to topical finasteride with oral minoxidil. Still not where I needed to be. It wasn't until after my second hair transplant in 2021 that I finally switched to oral dutasteride and oral minoxidil — and that's when things actually changed. What frustrates me most is that dutasteride was available the entire time. It came to market in 2001. I just didn't know it existed. Nobody told me. I spent years and two hair transplants finding that out the hard way."

Pre-2019
Stage 1 — The Standard Protocol
1mg finasteride daily + topical Rogaine. Plus laser combs, dermarolling, supplements. Everything the internet recommended. Kept losing ground.
2019
First Hair Transplant
Switched to topical finasteride + oral minoxidil post-procedure. Better, but still not addressing the full mechanism.
2021
Second Hair Transplant
Started researching the real pharmacology. Discovered dutasteride. Finally switched to oral dutasteride + oral minoxidil.
Now
Mane & Steel — Built On What Actually Works
Oral dutasteride protocols, physician-supervised titration, oral minoxidil adjunct. The complete approach I wish I'd had at 20.

Dutasteride has been FDA-approved since 2001. The same year many guys reading this were in grade school. The data existed. The medication existed. But it wasn't positioned as a hair loss treatment, and for two decades men were handed finasteride as the default — without ever being told a more complete option was available.

That's not a conspiracy. That's what happens when education doesn't keep up with pharmacology. We built Mane & Steel to close that gap.

02 — The Science

Two Enzymes.
One Medication Blocks Both.

Hair loss is driven by DHT — dihydrotestosterone. Your body produces it using two enzymes: Type I and Type II 5-alpha reductase. Finasteride blocks Type II only. That leaves Type I completely active. For some men, that partial blockade is enough to slow progression. For others — and research shows this is a meaningful percentage — it isn't. They stay on finasteride for years, do everything right, and still lose ground.

Not because they failed. Because half the problem was never addressed. Dutasteride blocks both enzymes. That's not a brand claim. That's the pharmacology.

03 — Where We Stand

Some Companies
Are Starting To Follow.

We're not going to name names. We don't need to. When we built Mane & Steel, we made a deliberate decision: dutasteride-only protocols, from day one. No finasteride. Not as an option, not as a starter medication, not as a fallback. Because offering a medication we consider inferior wasn't something we were willing to do.

We're glad to see others in this space starting to recognize the same thing. Competition is good. More men on effective medication is good. But let it be known — we were first. We are proud to say that Mane & Steel is one of the first and only companies to offer dutasteride-only protocols from day one.

We didn't add dutasteride when it became popular. We built the entire company around it. And we want to be your choice — not because we're the loudest, but because we've been right from the beginning.

"We didn't add dutasteride when it became popular. We built the entire company around it."

04 — This Is For Every Man

You Don't Have To Be
Anyone Special.
You Just Have To Act.

We don't care what you do for a living. We don't care what you look like right now. We don't care if you're a computer programmer, an engineer, a teacher, a pilot, an athlete, or anything in between. Hair loss doesn't discriminate. And neither do we.

Every man has the right to a great head of hair. Every man has the right to the information it takes to keep it. And every man deserves a company that's going to give them the most effective medication available — dosed correctly, monitored properly, and adjusted as needed. Not whatever's easiest to prescribe or most profitable to sell.

That's why we offer titration protocols. That's why we don't just send you medication and disappear. That's why we're in this for the long game. Hair For Life isn't a tagline. It's the only goal that matters.

"Every man has the right to a great head of hair. Full stop."
