What is DHT — and Why It’s Ruining Your Hairline

💥 Straight Talk

DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is a sex hormone made from testosterone — and it’s the main culprit behind male pattern baldness. If you’re noticing thinning around the crown or a receding hairline, you’re likely experiencing DHT sensitivity. And once those follicles shrink, it’s game over unless you stop it early.

Most guys ignore it. Or worse — they start rubbing in some bullshit shampoo and hope for the best.

Let me explain why that’s a mistake I wish I hadn’t made.

🧬 The Deep Science (No Bullshit)

  • DHT is created when the enzyme 5-alpha reductase (5-AR) converts testosterone.
  • This hormone binds to hair follicles — especially in the temples and crown — and tells them to shrink.
  • Eventually, DHT chokes the life out of your follicles, reducing blood flow and shortening the hair growth cycle (called the anagen phase).

And here’s the real kicker: once those follicles miniaturize enough, they die. You’re not getting them back unless you get a transplant — and even then, you better be on meds to protect the rest of your scalp.

💊 How to Block DHT

There are two medications that inhibit the 5-alpha reductase enzyme and prevent testosterone from converting into DHT:

  • Finasteride – Blocks Type II 5-AR
  • Dutasteride – Blocks both Type I and II 5-AR

✅ That’s why Dutasteride capsules are more effective, especially long-term

Finasteride was originally developed for prostate health. Dutasteride is stronger, longer-lasting, and honestly what I wish I started with at 22.

📆 I Wish I Knew This in My 20s

I didn’t lose all my hair overnight. It started slow — just a little recession. But I brushed it off like most guys do. I thought hitting the gym, eating clean, and rubbing in minoxidil would be enough.

I was wrong.

By the time I got serious, I’d already lost ground. Had to go through a transplant. Had to do it the hard way. If I could go back?

I’d be taking oral Dutasteride daily the second I noticed shedding.

🧠 Final Word

  • DHT is real.
  • DHT is ruthless.
  • And if you don’t do something about it, it’s going to keep eating away at your hairline.

You don’t need to overcomplicate it. Block DHT, protect your follicles, and move on with your life.

That’s what we do here.
